Can Sugar In Your Coffee Make You More Productive?

I tried them all — or at least this is what I’d like to think. I love coffee. For me, it is a drink, which fits all occasions around the day.

And I am not alone. Statistics show that 30–40% of the world’s population drinks coffee regularly. This percentage is significantly higher in the US and other western countries. Here approx. 65% of the population has their daily coffee ritual.

Of the people who enjoy their coffee in the morning, 50% like to add sugar, to the beloved dark brown brew.

Can you believe that there is a simple trick in this procedure that can effectively change your morning routine for good?

1. Choose your spoon wisely.

I studied engineering. Fluid dynamics was a big exam in my curriculum, and a difficult one to be exact.

The ratio of the spoon size to cup diameter and profundity has a direct correlation to the turbulence you generate in the cup. And this turbulence has an immediate influence on the velocity of the dissolving reaction of the sugar crystals.

If your spoon is too big for the cup — the turbulence will only occur on the surface of the cup, meaning that the middle portion of the sugar will not dissolve evenly.

Swedish studies found that the perfect ratio between the cup diameter and spoon width is 0.5! Only with this ratio, the perfect turbulence profile can be generated in the liquid.

If you drink your coffee to go, measure the cup, and take your own spoon instead of using the sticks, standard coffee shops provide. You will be amazed by the effect.

2. Dip the spoon with the sugar in the coffee.

Fill your chosen spoon with the amount of sugar you choose, and bring the spoon close to the surface of your coffee.

Then let the coffee wet before you bring the complete spoon into the liquid.

If you drop the sugar above the surface, the crystals are falling in an unwanted distribution. Furthermore, the impact already causes certain turbulence in the liquid, which has a negative effect on the optimal turbulence profile, we would like to achieve.

When using sachets of sugar, like those offered in coffee shops, put the sugar first on your spoon and then slowly dive the spoon into the coffee.

No worries, when you do not get it right the first time — practice makes the expert.

3. Stir

To achieve the perfect velocity of the dissolving process, this step is the critical one.

Studies have found, that using this technique boosts your body’s ability to absorb sugar. This leads to a significant increase in your body’s performance!

The stirring has to be conducted clockwise.

Move the spoon around in the cup. The velocity should be chosen in a way, that you make one round of the cup in 1 second.

If you use a small cup, that means you have to steer very smoothly. If you have a bigger cup you need to put in more power to achieve the same velocity.

With this velocity, the sugar crystals dissolve and distribute in the perfect way, to be better absorbed by your body.

This optimized absorption of sugar leads to increased productivity of the body.

Are you serious?

You doubted there for a second, didn’t you? And no, I am definitely not serious.

If you made this conclusion by yourself, congratulations! You still think for yourself. The only component needed to boost anything in your life is yourself.

By the way, in case you wondered I drink my coffee black. No sugar.
